A "Pur" Approach to Skin Care

It seems wherever I turn, someone is abuzz - talking about buying organic or embarking on a raw-food diet. Movies like "Food, Inc." and grocery stores like Roots Market, Whole Foods and MOM's are in our communities, educating us to make wise choices about what we eat. Yes. The "natural" movement has gone mainstream.

Just as it's important what we put in our bodies, it's also important what we put on our bodies-on our skin. So, it is the perfect time to spread the word about Osmosis Pur Medical Skin Care.

I've been working with this product line for three years and cannot say enough positive things about it. Of course, other skincare lines have their benefits, but if you're looking for an incredibly effective product line that focuses on skin health and uses all-natural ingredients, Osmosis is for you.

Many skincare lines use harsh ingredients-sulfates, benzoyl peroxide and glycolic acid. These can dehydrate the skin and only treat the epidermis, the upper layer of skin. And they can cause chronic exfoliation, inflammation and sun sensitivity, all of which can accelerate skin aging.

Osmosis is a professional product line with an innovative approach. The product formulas are pure, meaning they don't contain parabens, sulfates, artificial colors or artificial fragrances. Each Osmosis product uses a patented delivery system to direct at least 13 highly researched and tested ingredients to the middle layer of skin, the dermis. By targeting this deeper skin layer, these beneficial ingredients generate all-natural exfoliation, encouraging the skin's natural repair process which, in turn, restores the epidermal barrier-making you look more radiant and youthful.

So how does Osmosis earn its acclaim? It's in the delivery.

Let's start with the liposomal delivery system. The challenge with any skincare product is getting the active ingredients into the skin. Since our skin is what protects us, it's designed to keep things out.

All Osmosis products employ a patent-pending liposomal delivery system, using an ingredient called phosphatidylcholine. Derived from lecithin, this lipid molecule increases penetration of the products' active ingredients by 1,000%. In addition, phosphatidylcholine's natural healing properties help to protect the skin and replenish its acid mantle-the pH balance-to prevent infection. As a bonus, it restores the skin's barrier, hydrates the skin and reduces acne by 70%.

The Multi-tasking, Superstar Ingredient

Niacinamide is "superstar" ingredient in Osmosis products. This unique, multi-tasking B Vitamin stimulates collagen, moisturizes, reduces inflammation, acts as an antioxidant and minimizes hyperpigmentation-like sunspots and acne marks. It also improves the skin's circulation, which feeds vital proteins, lipids and enzymes to the skin that help reveal the youthful, glowing look we all crave.

The Pac-Man of Skincare

Another key ingredient that helps Osmosis products pack their punch is 1,3 Beta Glucan. To understand this vital oat-based ingredient, think of the video game Pac-Man. Just as that endearing, yellow character gobbled up ghosts, 1,3 Beta Glucan stimulates the skin's macrophages, which help erase scar tissue and cellular debris. This stimulation is critically important in treating acne and acne-prone skin because every acne lesion is a potential scar. In addition, because of its inflammation-reducing qualities, 1,3 Beta Glucan is stellar in treating rosacea and sensitive skin-conditions prone to chronic inflammation, which can lead to acute scarring, called phyma (think W.C. Field's nose).

As if those beneficial Osmosis components aren't enough, the product line also includes the holy grail of effective ingredients: liposomal retinal.

It's All About the Retinal

Retinals, commonly known as Vitamin A, stimulate the body's ability to make new skin cells. If you're familiar with Retin-A, then you're likely familiar, too, with the challenges of using it-the need for a prescription and the unpleasant side effects of inflammation, peeling, itching and redness. Many people become discouraged by these unwelcome issues and stop using Retin-A before they see results.

Osmosis products contain an effective, non-irritating form of Vitamin A called liposomal retinal. Research shows that while this beneficial, collagen-building acid has a similar activity profile to Retin-A, it is far less irritating because it penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin. As a bonus, this ingredient has antibacterial properties, making it excellent for the treatment of acne.

Don't Go Green, Go Orange

This important, all-natural skincare line has something for everyone. Osmosis formulates innovative, beneficial products that address not only aging skin, but also rosacea, sensitive skin, acne-prone or oily skin, as well as hyperpigmentation.

If you want to go natural with your skin care, go orange! I call Osmosis' Facial Infusion the "orange treatment." Free of any alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids, this treatment is very gentle, but incredibly effective-making it tolerable and appropriate for every skin condition, and best left on overnight.

Typically, chemical peels work from the top down, removing the outer layer of skin by the application of an acid or by mechanical methods, like microdermabrasion. Osmosis' Facial Infusion works from the bottom up, known as a dermal push. Though your skin will be Oompa-Loompa orange upon application, the blend of calming, antibacterial, lightening and eight skin-building ingredients penetrate deep into the dermis, stimulating your skin's natural response to slough-or "push" off-old skin cells.

Within 48 hours after the treatment, you'll experience mild flaking, lasting four to five days, which gives way to clearer, more youthful, more radiant skin.
